Chesapeake Sport Pilot's full service maintenance shop is open to owners all of types of aircraft. FAA certified mechanic (IA) and pilot Jamie Shimer is known throughout Maryland for his high quality of work and attention to detail. With more than 20 years in the business, Jamie has worked on everything from kit planes to antique aircraft to the most modern light sport planes to roll off the production line. He is fully certified to work on all Rotax 4 stroke engines, and is equally at home patching a composite airframe, riveting sheet metal, or recovering a fabric wing. He was selected as the mechanic of choice by AOPA to maintain the 2010 Remos sweepstakes plane.
Owner Assisted Maintenance
FAA rules allow the owner of an aircraft to perform maintenance on his/her plane as long and he/she is supervised by an appropriately rated mechanic. This provides you with a great opportunity as there is no finer way to learn how your plane works than to work on it yourself. Under the supervision of Jamie Shimer you will literally learn about the nuts and bolts of your plane which will improve knowledge and understanding of your aircraft.
Pre-Buy Inspections
Thinking of buying a pre-owned plane? A wise aircraft buyer hires an honest and experienced mechanic to perform a pre-buy inspection to search for damage, corrosion, airworthiness and safety directives that have not been complied with. He has also worked on a variety of modern light sport aircraft, is Rotax trained and certified, and is well versed in the light sport maintenance regulatory system.
