If you are working towards a private pilot certificate or do not hold a US drivers license, you will need to get 3rd class aviation medical certificate that will double as your student pilot certificate.  We recommend:

If you are working towards a sport pilot certificate and hold a valid US drivers license you may obtain a student pilot certificate from a designated pilot examiner (DPE) or an FAA FSDO.

If you wish to obtain your student pilot certificate from a DPE you must fill out a profile and application for student pilot certificate in IACRA.  Copy down and bring your FTN and other login information with you when you visit the DPE!
